Judging of the present compared to the past

Some times you feel that you have lived a nice life while you were very young and the things have changed now not for better but for worse.
May be this phenomenon was there in the thoughts of the earlier generations also.
So relative value goes on changing in this known World.
Who is to judge whether the life was nice during earlier days or at present? Any observer who tries to judge these issues will also be a present generation human. so naturally we can assume that he is influenced by the present set up and doubt arises as to how we can take his word as truth?
