STORY OF NAAHATHEEPO

STORY OF NAAHATHEEPO :

(This is one of the stories from the book of Collection of Kannada short stories translated from Chinese read by me some about 6 decades back)
In one of the villages In China long long age lived a man by name Naahatheepo.
He was the only son to his parents and they were quite self sufficient. They had a small patch of land and some pigs,pultry and some buffaloes. With this they were able to lead a quite life..
When Naahatheepo was very young he was being taken to the temples for some occasions or festivites. When he grew up became a youth due to some calamity both his parents died. On one festival day after the death of his parents he went to the temple to ask for favours from the presiding deity. He wanted a good girl as his wife and also hewanted to try his hand in some small business. This he wanted to ask as a boon from the deity.
As this was a festive season the temple yard ws completely filled with devotees. So many people in their hand had burning incence sticks and candles and were praying ernestly for severla boons. He could not find any one around him not praying for some thing or the other from the deity. He heard some of the desire loudly being made by others to the deity of the temple that their desire was of more urgent nature than his.
So he did not want the deity to trouble the deity. and returned without making his desire to the deity. Whenever he visited the temple later on he found that the desire of others were of more important than his own.
So he stopped visiting the temple and led a normal life with the possessions he had. The others in the village started spreadeing a rumour that Naahatheeps has become an atheist..
Except for a hand ful majority of the villagers avoided him..He was not bothred about it..
After some years due to old age Naahateepo lefft this world. To the surprise of the villagers all of them saw a celestial chariot descending from the skies and take the body of NAAHATHEEPO. When they were astonished and gathered and were surprised to see that the body of an atheist being taken by angels in a celestial chariot. One of his close aquaintances told the villagers the true reason for Naahatheepo not visiting the temple. And then villagers started praising Naahatheepo to the skies stating that he is a real God loving person and friend of the villagers who thought of others request to God was far more urgent than his.
